Visiting Fellowships

Description

The Trustees are offering Visiting Fellowships to a number of UK universities to enable them to invite one or two visitors to the UK for the purpose of research and collaboration. Universities not on the rota of institutions selected by the Trustees may not apply directly to the Trust under this scheme.

Aim

To enable one or two post-doctoral academic researchers (normally with no more than eight years post-doctoral experience) to visit the UK university for the purpose of research and collaboration. Visiting Fellows are encouraged to give lectures and seminars and to participate in the intellectual life of the institution.

Eligible Applicants

2010/2011 academic year:

  • Birmingham City University
  • Canterbury Christ Church University
  • University of Chester
  • University of Chichester
  • Durham University
  • University of Exeter
  • University of Greenwich
  • University of Liverpool
  • University of Portsmouth
  • University of St Andrews
  • University of Wales Trinity Saint David
  • University of Winchester

Eligible Fields

Visiting Fellows may be in any field.

Eligible Duration And Timing

Between 9 and 12 consecutive months for each Visiting Fellow.

Eligible Costs

  • Subsistence expenses of up to £1,800 per month;
  • spouse allowance of up to £3,900 for an accompanying spouse/partner;
  • return fare for the Fellow and spouse/partner;
  • London allowance of up to £2,600 for the Fellow;
  • up to £750 for travel within the UK for the Fellow for research trips, conferences, etc.

Value

Dependent on particular circumstances of application.

Ineligible Elements

  • bench fees;
  • overheads and other indirect costs

Application Procedure

Only universities on the rota selected by the Trustees may nominate Fellows. Individuals from overseas wishing to undertake a Visiting Fellowship should approach the relevant university to determine internal selection procedures. Individuals should NOT contact the Leverhulme Trust directly.
